MACY'S GLAMORAMA 2014 BACKSTAGE BEAUTY Part Two

Continuing with my Macy’s Glamorama backstage coverage, I talk all thing beauty with fabulous Alex Sanchez. In this post, I get a make-up lesson as well as a make-over.
WHAT ARE YOU CRUSHING ON FOR FALL?
Definitely eyeliner, it's really huge. The whole blue world is very big -teal, sapphire, violet blues are all big. Also lips -it's all about bold color, really saturated bright colors. And there's also a trend for that kind of gothic lip like you see Lorde sporting. A very rich lip color is a high fashion look right now.

BRUSH OR FINGERS?
I'm a big fan of finger-tip application especially with anything metallic and sparkly. Brushes are good; fingers are good, but they do different things. Especially with sparkle when you use your fingers, you spread it in a very uniform way it kind of breaks up the sparkle. a lot of people think you have to be a certain age to wear sparkles, and that's not true. When you have a little bit of sparkle it just re highlights the architecture of the eye -it makes your eyes a little brighter.
Color Design Infinite 24H crease-Free luminous eye shadow (601 Unlimited Silver), (602 Forever Noir) and (101 Eternal Gold), $25. Blush Subtil delicate oil-free powder blush (Shimmer Sunset Seduction), $30. Hypnôse buildable volume for custom lash results, $27.50.

WHAT'S YOUR TOP TIP FOR THE PERFECT CAT EYES?
A lot of women have issues when they try to do the little wing cos it's always different. When you do your liner, you want to imagine your face is a clock, and the angle you're doing is like the arms of the clock. So to make a classic cat eye it's always ten o'clock and two o'clock, and you have the perfect angle. Also use a gel liner like Lancôme's Liner Design as it combines the best of both worlds -it glides on like a liquid, but it's solid like a pencil. If you wear liquid, you have to wait for it to dry, and that can be tricky, but this is already dry application, but it glides on really nice.

TO LINE OR NOT TO LINE?
If you do lip liner first, you can look really contrived. Also, it grabs onto the skin more, and it gives a texture to it. It doesn't wear off at the same time, so you're not left with the liner on your lips and no lipstick. This way it blends beautifully plus when you have color [on your lips], you can see where and if you need a liner.
LANCÔME JUST LAUNCHED A NEW MASCARA, GRANDIÔSE, WHAT'S DIFFERENT ABOUT THIS MASCARA? It's really amazing it's all about this new wand. The engineering behind it is incredible; the 25-degree angle of the wand is like the Holy Grail for the eye. It makes it intuitive to capture every lash. You can go over your nose, and you won't get the bar of mascara across your nose with the 'swan' like angle of the wand. It's very organic and very aerodynamic to use. You'll be able to position it very naturally, so it's pretty smart.
Grandiôse wide angle fan effect mascara, $32

MACY'S GLAMORAMA 2014 BACKSTAGE BEAUTY Part One

 MACY'S GLAMORAMA 2014 BACKSTAGE BEAUTY
One of Chicago’s most glamorous and talked about fashion events, Macy’s Glamorama 2014, took place earlier this month. Lancôme, the event’s beauty partner and sponsor, invited me to go backstage to learn more about the looks created by their national makeup artist, Alex Sanchez. The theme this year was FASHION ROCKS® with Sanchez taking inspiration from the iconic rock star Debbie Harry. “The Glamorama stage look is pure Rock Star Couture…decadent, rebellious and reckless,” says Sanchez.

Sanchez, a very hands-on creative director, worked on all 45 models to insure a cohesive look through out the show. “You can try to explain it to someone else but every women’s eye shape is different and maybe they [make-up artists] might take it somewhere else. Not that it wouldn’t be pretty but it wouldn’t be the same,” explains Sanchez.
