WISH LIST

I never thought she would be a credible designer with some of her past outfits’ being so questionable.....plus that orange tan..............

but I want this dress by Victoria Beckham!

What I LOVE so much about it is the print. It’s such an unusual design for an evening dress being quite graphic but combined with the soft subtle colour and gorgeous fabric keeps the look elegant and beautiful.

Now all I need is the perfect event to wear it to!

SHOPPING SPLURGES

I didn’t realise but it's been nearly four years since I’ve been to Bicester Village. What I found in the past is that it’s a hit or miss experience depending on when you go. The last time I went the PR took me (and I hate to admit this to you but she gave me £100 of vouchers to spend!) I could have so done with that today with the amount I spent; it was a VERY successful trip. I was so impressed with some of the designer brands they now have compared to four years ago. Alexander McQueen, Luella, Marni, Matthew Williamson, Temperley London, Anya Hindmarch, Mulberry and Smythson are all there.

Now the trick is not letting my husband see any of these purchases, he ALWAYS notices my new things. Which in itself is lovely but when you’re trying to hide your shopping habit it’s not so good.

I was seduced into buying.....

An incredibly well cut winter jacket from
Jaeger, original price was £599 but I paid £186.75!

A gorgeous navy suede oversized clutch by Mulberry that I’ve been eyeing for a while, got it for £245 instead of £375!

A staple item for any wardrobe, a signature pair of Tod’s ‘Gommini’ loafers. In the shops you'd pay at least £250 but at Bicester I got them for £135. How cute is this lilac colour?

Other items that I was tempted to get but resisted included:

An incredible one shoulder Grecian dress by Maxmara for £335 from £575 (see below)

A gorgeous brown leather shoulder bag by Anya Hindmarch at £327 from £595

An amazing black and white tailored coat by Pringle of Scotland for £300 from £1000

THE ROMANTICS

I’m quite excited about a new film, “The Romantics” Starring Katie Holmes, Josh Duhamel, ‘True Blood’ star, Anna Paquin, the ever talented Elijah Wood and my personal fav (and secret crush) Adam Brody!

I haven’t seen the film yet but the press release says “Based on the heralded novel by producer, novelist, director Galt Niederhoffer, "The Romantics" is a Zeitgeist love story and generational comedy that breathes new life into the genre and recaptures the camaraderie of youth.” Well if that doesn’t sell it the film’s trailer will.

Some of the cast members are being featured in a ‘J.Crew + The Romantics = LOVE’ shoot for the fall collection and I think the photos are FANTASTIC!

GO BEHIND THE SCENES OF THE SHOOT

The film is open in selected theaters in NY & LA on September 10, 2010

Addiction twenty-two: LWD (the little white dress)

I know it might seem a bit early but I’ve decided I want to have a big 10 year wedding anniversary party and I want to wear a white dress! For my wedding I didn’t wear one as I was making a statement by wearing something a bit different. So why now 10 years later do I have an urge to wear a white dress? Am I mellowing with my old age or is it all those years that I worked on a bridal magazine? Having said that I could never wear a traditional wedding dress, that’s just not me.

Now I love the idea of wearing my trademark look of a white tee with a gorgeous long evening skirt from J.Crew; it’s the pairing of the causal with formal that I like.

Or even one of these stunning white designer cocktail dresses from Net-a-Porter with a fabulous pair of Louboutins.

THE LAKESIDE STYLE CHALLENGE

I was asked by Lakeside to take their style challenge for the magazine’s Autumn issue and I accepted.

Autumn issue is out now.

Corinne Day and the fashion world

Her photographs weren’t always the easiest to look at but she was admired by many including myself for changing the face of fashion photography forever in the early 90s.
Corinne Day, who has been suffering from a second brain tumour for the last two years, died on Friday, August 27 2010. She will always be remembered for launching the career of Kate Moss with her iconic photoshoot for the British magazine, The Face (July, 1990).

This shoot was just the start of things to come; Corinne pioneered a new style of photography that was later referred to as the ‘waif’ look or ‘heroin chic’ fashion’s equivalent to Seattle’s grunge. Corinne striped the models of the 80s excess. She wanted to remove the overdone glamour and glossiness in favour of a more natural, raw and honest image.

However this so-called grunge aesthetic that launched her career was also the cause of her fall out with the industry. In 1993 when Vogue came calling Day shot Moss in an underwear story appearing un-groomed un-styled and even hung over in a grotty looking bedsit.

The shoot caused such an outrage that her critics blamed her for promoting anorexia or drug use. Worse Marcelle D'Argy Smith, then editor of Cosmopolitan, even said: "The pictures are hideous and tragic. I believe they can only appeal to the paedophile market." Day quickly became disenchanted with the fashion industry. She was moving towards a more gritty reportage photography which I at times found uncomfortable to look at with images of drug abuse and bloodied knickers.

After a 10 year absence Day had a welcome return to the fashion world. With age and time both she and the controversy mellowed and she was back working for British Vogue with her muse Moss. As well as shooting for other fashion magazines like Italian and Japanese Vogue, Day also had exhibitions all over the world including the Saatchi Gallery, Whitney Museum in New York, Victoria & Albert, the National Portrait Gallery and Tate Modern to name but a few.

Many photographers and fashion magazines have Day to thank for bringing us an alternative view of fashion which included imperfect models shot with only natural light. Bringing an element of realness to an otherwise staged and airbrushed to perfection culture. Day once said "Photography is getting as close as you can to real life, showing us things we don't normally see. These are people's most intimate moments, and sometimes intimacy is sad."
