FASHION CONFESSIONS: SOPHIA BUSH Actress
For 9 years she played Brook Davis, a fashion designer on CW’s popular teen show, One Tree Hill. Sophia’s now swapped her designer shoes and handbags for a gun and badge as she joins the cast of NBC's Chicago Fire spin-off, Chicago PD I met Sophia at the Coach’s launch party for their new holiday collection –which by the way is amazing (more to come in another post) –where we chatted about what else? Fashion.
WHAT’S YOUR FASHION ADDICTION?
Oh god…it’s not any one thing for me. It’s across the board. I have a purse problem. I have a shoe problem; I have a fashion problem! But I also feel like, particularly in my business, it’s by far the best addiction for a young woman to have, so I’ll take it.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL STYLE?
Eclectic! One of the things I love about fashion is if you feel like being incredibly polished one night and then dressing in menswear the next day and putting on a very 50s inspired dress the night after that you can. You are allowed to be whoever you feel like being in a moment. I think fashion does that for women in a way that not many things do.
WHAT’S THE MOST PRIZED POSSESSION IN YOUR CLOSET?
I honestly don’t know.
YOU FEEL MOST BEAUTIFUL WHEN?
I feel beautiful when I’m happy. When I have a particularly fulfilling day at work. Or when something incredible has happened with one of the nonprofits I work with. When I’m reminded how small I am on this planet and how big the world is it makes me feel fortunate, and that makes me feel beautiful.
WHO’S YOUR STYLE ICON?
In my peer group I think Kate Bosworth is absolutely flawless. The VP at Rachel Zoe, Mandana (Dayani), is one of the coolest girls I know, and just anytime she shows up anywhere she is jaw droppingly chic and cool. Then there’s women like Cate Blanchett and Charlize Theron who I just think are all stars at the fashion game.
WHICH DESIGNERS DO YOU WORSHIP?
Francis Costa at Calvin Klein just kills it. Then I love more whimsical edgy fashion as well. Helmut Lang…his menswear inspired pieces. Alexander Wang for his crazy sort of athletic glam visionary. And Phillip Lim is always on top of my list, and I find I’m really living in LNA they make the worlds best t-shirts. A.L.C. is hands down one of my favorite lines.
ONE THING YOU COULDN’T LIVE WITHOUT?
My dogs, I couldn’t do it.

FASHION CONFESSIONS: MICHAEL PETRY Creative Director of the Frye Company
With The Frye Company's 150th anniversary and the opening of three new stores, it’s been an incredible year for this iconic shoe brand. Most people, including myself, know them for their classic Campus, riding or biker boot. So I was surprised to see how much more they do like loafers, sneakers, ballet flats, heels, sandals and even bags! Their collection in total consists of more than 800 items! And if you thought of their footwear as functional, durable working boots only suited for the rough outdoors you’d be wrong. These days it’s a cool fashion brand that’s still synonymies with quality and craftsmanship. I met and chatted with the creative director, Michael Petry, at their Chicago store launch.

WHAT’S THE INSPIRATION BEHIND THE 150TH YEAR ANNIVERSARY COLLECTION?

WHAT’S THE MOST PRIZED POSSESSION IN YOUR CLOSET?
Autographed soccer shoes from Zinedine Zidane
WHICH DESIGNERS DO YOU WORSHIP?

WHAT’S THE BEST PART OF YOUR JOB?
No two days are ever alike. The ability to work with a great group of people. I like coming to work every day.

THE LIMITED CELEBRATES GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY
Me a Model?!?
When The Limited asked me and two other bloggers, Christine of The View from 5 ft 2 and Jess of Jess and Jill to be part of their golden anniversary event I was incredibly excited. When I found out I’d be walking down the runway with ‘real’ models…
[Jessica Voice Over]: I couldn't help but wonder...is this my Carrie Bradshaw moment?
[Flashback to SATC 2001]
Carrie: I do not belong on a runway, runways are for models not writers.
Charlotte: What’s the difference between strutting down a runway and the way you strut down Fifth Avenue?
Carrie: Strut? Do I strut? Am I a strutter?
Carrie: I just… I cannot imagine walking down a runway where all the people sit there and judge me.
Charlotte: No one would judge you.
Carrie: We judge models all the time.
Miranda: But, you’re not a model you’re one of the real people.
Carrie: Exactly and I don’t want people to think that I can’t see the difference between a model and me.
[Back to 2013 reality]
After much consideration I said yes as I was incredibly honored to be asked. I just prayed I wouldn’t fall over and be fashion road kill like Carrie.
[Jessica V.O.]: The only question left to ask was “do I get to keep the clothes?”
Co-hosts for the night Chicago’s own Corri McFadden and Elliot Staples, The Limited's senior vice president of design.
At 5”8’ I never thought of myself as short but compared to these ‘real’ models I am!
Backstage with my new besties, Jess of Jess and Jill, Christine of The View from 5 ft 2 and Corri!
The Limited's anniversary collection consisted of three key trends, military, equestrian and leather. Along with the models each trend had a guest blogger walking the runway in their own personal take of the look. I of course was given the Equestrian trend, [Jessica V.O.]: Was it cos of my British connections?
The ‘real’ models in some of my fav looks of the night...
All looks are available online at TheLimited.com
The ‘non-models’ aka fashion bloggers.
Charlie and his angles!
[Jessica V.O.] The whole night was a huge success and made me wonder what I was ever nervous about? BTW I got to keep the clothes!
